This year, the Kee Family of Stranorlar celebrates 120 years of ownership of one of County Donegal’s best-known hotels, an achievement acknowledged by Leo Varadkar, Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport at the recent the CIE Awards of Excellence in Dublin. Presenting Vicky Kee with one of the industry’s most coveted awards, the Minister congratulated her on the hotel’s success, remarking that ownership across four generations by the same family must make the hotel unique in Ireland.
The CIE Awards of Excellence are presented annually, with this year’s red carpet event held in The Shelbourne Hotel Dublin.
Kee’s Hotel won one the top three awards, for Overall Excellence as voted by overseas visitors to Ireland in 2011. As one of the largest inbound tour operators to the island, CIE survey their passengers to assess best visitor experience, including most professional and friendly staff, excellence of food and overall service, attention to detail and standards of comfort and personal service.
This is the eleventh time in twelve years that Kee’s Hotel has been the recipient of this prestigious award. Keeping up the long traditional of hospitality in the Kee family is important to Vicky whose family have had a business presence in the town since 1892.
“For us, it’s all about team performance and I couldn’t achieve such success without my hard-working staff,” acknowledged Vicky.
Throughout 2012, the hotel will be celebrating this achievement with a range of activities including a return from the Chefs of Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Restaurant and a commemorative booklet.
