Kees Hotel Stranorlar

There are few hotels in Ireland that can boast more than 130 years of continuous ownership in the same family, but such is their unique history in County Donegal. When William James Kee bought the premises in Stranorlar in 1892 for the princely sum of £400, little did he imagine that his great grandchildren, four generations later, would still be running it today.

Hotels in Donegal

Located in the Finn Valley, close to the Bluestack Mountain range, in the twin towns of Stranorlar and Ballybofey, this is the ideal base for visitors seeking a break in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Kee’s remains a traditional Irish hotel in every respect where old world charm is reflected through its original tapestries, chintz covered sofas, gleaming brasses and antique furniture, and where the sense of comfort and genuine welcome remain constant.

Donegal Hotel Accommodation

All 53 bedrooms are bright and comfortable and many have been individually designed, in keeping with the character of this lovely traditional Irish hostelry. Kee"s Hotel retains that feeling from a bygone era where creaking floorboards in the oldest part of the building seem to absorb the noises and sounds of a place filled with character and history. Stories from four generations of the family have been soaked into the very fabric of the building

Restaurants in Ballybofey

The hotel’s reputation for great food is equally renowned, dating back two generations to Granny Sue Kee whose culinary skills were widely acclaimed.

A recent addition to Kee’s Hotel is the Terrace Garden, the ideal spot to enjoy a casual lunch or a splendid afternoon tea. Here honey-coloured stone combines with bright floral planting and a rustic wrought iron pagoda, where guests can make the most of lovely outdoor space.
